Arizona Diamondbacks’ outfielder Justin Upton and right-handed pitcher Daniel Hudson have been named the Louisville Slugger 2011 Silver Slugger Award recipients for the National League at outfielder and pitcher, respectively, as announced by Louisville Slugger.

The award recognizes the players who were the best offensive producers at each position in both leagues as voted by Major League Baseball managers and coaches with selections based on a combination of offensive statistics, including batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage, as well as the managers’ and coaches’ general impressions of a player’s overall offensive value.

Upton, 24, and Hudson, 24, are the third and fourth players in D-Backs history to earn a Silver Slugger Award, joining outfielder Luis Gonzalez in 2001 and right-handed pitcher Micah Owings in 2007.

Upton hit .289 (171-for-592) with 105 runs scored, 39 doubles, 5 triples, 31 home runs, 88 RBI and 313 total bases in 159 games along with 21 stolen bases, a .369 on-base percentage, .529 slugging percentage and .898 OPS.

Hudson hit .277 (18-for-65) with 5 runs scored, 3 doubles, a home run, 14 RBI in 33 starts along with a .309 on-base percentage, a .369 slugging percentage and a .678 OPS.

That’s all for today.

Diamondbacks Rally Late, Come Up Short In 3-2 Loss…

Read More: Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers

The Arizona Diamondbacks fell 3-2 to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night, snapping the team’s two-game win streak. Arizona drops to 87-73 on the season.

The Dodgers came out swinging and put points on the board right away, scoring two runs in the very first inning. Matt Kemp and Jerry Sands both hit singles to drive in runs, and the Diamondbacks gave up four total hits in the inning.

The game turned into a defensive showdown from there, with both teams failing to score again until the eighth inning. Geoff Glum grounded out to the short stop and brought Ryan Roberts in to score in the top of the inning, pulling the Diamondbacks within a run at 2-1. The Dodgers, however, countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the eighth on a single by Aaron Miles. A single by Miguel Montero in the top of the ninth gave the Diamondbacks one more run but left Arizona with a 3-2 loss.

Pitcher Daniel Hudson (16-10) pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out four batters. The pitcher had led his team to victory in each of his past four wins but fell just a little short in this one.

The Diamondbacks fall to 87-73 on the season and move into a tie with the Milwaukee Brewers for second place in the National League. Arizona leads the San Francisco Giants by seven games with 12 games left in the season.

Running low on time today, i’ll be back tomorrow hopefully with some more news.

The Minnesota Twins lost their third consecutive game on Sunday afternoon at Chase Field, as the Arizona Diamondbacks walked away with a 3-2 victory to extend their winning streak to six games.

The Diamondbacks drew first blood in this one, as they put up two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The first one came on Juan Miranda’s solo home run off of Francisco Liriano with one out, and they added another courtesy of an RBI single by Arizona pitcher Daniel Hudson.

Not to be outdone, Liriano got an RBI of his own in the top of the fifth, bringing Delmon Young in to score on a ground out to second base to cut Arizona’s lead to 2-1. Young then tied things up for the Twins in the top of the seventh, when he led off the inning with a solo home run. . .his first of the 2011 season. . .to knot the score at two apiece.

Alex Burnett came in to relieve Liriano prior to the bottom of the seventh inning, and immediately gave up a double to Willie Bloomquist. Bloomquist advanced to third on Ben Revere’s error, and came home to score on Ryan Roberts’ sacrifice fly. The Twins never really threatened after that, as they got just one hit in the eighth off of Hudson, and J.J. Putz set them down in order in the ninth for his twelfth save of the season.

Hudson got the win for Arizona after pitching eight strong innings and allowing the Twins only eight hits and two runs while striking out six. Alex Burnett took the loss for Minnesota, dropping his record on the season to 0-3. Liriano did not figure into the decision after one of his typical up-and-down starts. The left-hander allowed two runs on six hits to the Diamondbacks, but walked four batters to go along with four strikeouts.

No rest for the Twins, as they’ll hop on a flight back to Minneapolis in order to host the Seattle Mariners on Monday night at Target Field, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 PM Central time. As it stands now, the pitching match-up is being advertised as left-hander Jason Vargas (3-2, 3.39 ERA) taking the hill for Seattle, and the Twins countering with righty Carl Pavano (2-4, 5.30 ERA).
